Edinbop Winter Cabaret

The annual Edinbop Winter Cabaret is back! On Wednesday, the 1st of February, join us at Summerhall for swinging performances, snazzy singing, and much more. In the past, we’ve had everything from breakdancing, to a memorable potato chip performance.
If you want to shake your tail feathers on stage, let us know by email at info@edinbop.co.uk. Spaces are limited, so get in quick!
The Cabaret will start at 9pm, after classes at the usual times. It is £3, or free with attendance of class!

Edinbop AGM 2016

On Wednesday 30 November, we’re holding the Edinbop AGM at Summerhall in Edinburgh.

What is the AGM?

The AGM is your chance to find out what’s been going on behind the scenes for the past year, have your say about what you want to see in the Edinburgh’s swing dancing scene next year, and vote on next year’s Committee members.

The exact timing of the night is still TBC, but last year the AGM was a record-breaking 30 minutes thanks to Edinbop Chair Sigga’s incredible skills! Social dancing will follow as usual.

Give your views

We’re currently running a survey to find out more about our dancers and what it is you want to see in the scene throughout 2017 – results will be shared at the AGM.

To complete the survey, please visit: http://www.sogosurvey.com/k/RQsSPPTTsSsPsPsP

Volunteer or join the Committee

Whether you’ve only just fallen in love with swing dancing or are a veteran in the scene, we need your ideas, opinions and skills to help Edinburgh’s scene swinging.

There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer for specific events or, if you have more time to dedicate, you could join the Committee.

Roles on the Edinbop Committee include:
– Management Committee (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary)
– Teacher Coordinators
– DJ Coordinators
– Newsletter Coordinators
– Event Coordinators

If you’re curious and want to find out more, to nominate yourself or another person, or to register yourself as a volunteer for events, please send us an email: info@edinbop.co.uk.

All nominations for the Committee must be received by Monday 28 November.

New Committee Members will be elected at the AGM.

On the night

Just bring yourself and your dance shoes! Let us know if you’re coming on the Facebook event page.

We hope to see you there!

Balboa classes return

After some frantic venue negotiation we are back with weekly balboa classes!

Starting this week come over to Boteco do Brasil, Lothian Street every Wednesday for 7-8pm for Improver classes and 8-9pm for complete beginners.  We’ll then be heading over to Summehall for social from 9pm.

Classes return

As Edinburgh returns to normal after the month of madness that is August, we here at Edinbop are getting ready to get back into the swing of things (pun intended) with a new term of dancing.

We’ll be back in September on the following dates:

  • Blues: Tuesday 6 September
  • Book Shop Lindy Hop: Tuesday 6 September
  • Lindy Hop: Wednesday 7 September

See you on the dancefloor!

Blues News September

Blues is back on 6 September with Spoonful Gals, Sigga & Leigh, teaching together for the first time! If you haven’t tried blues before, this is the perfect time as this week’s fun classes will focus on musicality and get you all bluesed up!

International lindy and blues teacher, Dáire Mac An Bháird will be joining Leigh for the rest of September’s classes. And if you want even more blues in September…

Scotland Invades! is coming to Edinburgh for the first time on 9 to 11 September. THE LONG WAIT IS OVER!!!! The blues dance community of SCOTLAND is ready to invade the capital!

Stand ready with us for a fabulous weekend of music, camaraderie and dance.  Register here!

There will be:
– A Houseparty where we get to DJ awesome blues and fusion tunes.
– An Afternoon Workshop with the Tremendously talented Leigh and Daire. An absolute bargain at £15
– A night of dancing to live music and other marvellous fun times.
– Potential Collective Chill Out time on Sunday before home we go.

We will do our best to organise hosting.

The aim of these events is to promote blues dancing in our local scenes and throughout SCOTLAND; have cheap weekends of blues dance that hopefully all can afford to attend, spend time with friends, make some new ones and see some live Blues music. Perfect for dancers new to your scene or the experienced.

Classes on hold during August

Don’t forget – all our classes and social dancing are on hold during the Fringe Festival, when all our usual venues are taken over for fantastic performances from all over the world.

We’ll be back in September on the following dates:

  • Blues: Tuesday 6 September
  • Book Shop Lindy Hop: Tuesday 6 September
  • Lindy Hop: Wednesday 7 September
  • Balboa: TBC

But if you can’t last the month without the chance to dance, don’t worry! We’re adding a few more dancing opportunities to our calendar, so keep an eye on then Calendar and our Facebook group for dancing throughout August.

Change of venue

Throughout July, Lindy Hop classes and social dancing on Wednesday nights will take place at Marchmont St Giles on Kilgraston Road, rather than our usual venue of Summerhall.

This is due to preparation for the Fringe Festival.

Please note that all our classes will conclude for August, as our regular dancing spots all become Fringe venues! Keep an eye on our events calendar for dancing opportunities as they become available.

Venue change for lindy hop for 2 weeks

CHANGE OF VENUE FOR TONIGHT AND NEXT WEEK

Due to the Edinburgh International Science Festival taking place at Summerhall for the next three weeks, we’ll be at Marchmont St Giles, EH9 2DW, tonight  (23rd of March) and next week (Wednesday 30 March) for classes and dancing.

Blues will stay as is on Tuesdays at the Newsroom and Balboa at the Washbar on Saturdays.

A new website… and a new home!

Edinbop are pleased to announce the launch of our new website. Hopefully this covers everything you need to know about swing dancing in Edinburgh, whether you’re into Lindy Hop, Blues or Balboa. If you’re new to dancing, check out our FAQs and class info to get a feel for what you can look forward to!

The other big news this month is Shoe Swing‘s move to Summerhall. After almost 10 years at The Counting House, we’re moving on up to Edinburgh’s newest and biggest arts venue. Join us on 2nd March for the start of a new era!

This means that Balboa is expanding into it’s own weekly event, with the Saturday Shuffle at The Wash Bar from 11am-3pm. There are so many exciting developments for swing dancing in Edinburgh, we hope you can join us for the ride!
