On Saturday 21 – Sunday 22 March, we’re holding a Beginners Weekend Workshop at the Counting House. This workshop with Bryony and Craig will focus on good fun, good technique and good moves! (And at a good price too – only £25 / £20 for students!)
An ideal way to build those solid basics and confidence to get on the dancefloor. Alternatively, if you’ve been thinking about learning to lead when you usually follow, or vice versa, now is your chance!
There will also be a beginner-friendly tea dance for £3 on Sunday 22 March (included in your ticket price if you attend a class).
With January came our annual Cabaret, the highlight of the Edinbop calendar! Thank you to everyone who came along and to our performers for their superb acts this year.
Sadly, January also brought some shocking news about sexual assault within the international swing dancing community, which has made us take a close look at how we promote safety in our scene.
Our new Code of Conductoutlines what is and isn’t appropriate in Edinbop classes or events. While most of it should be common sense, we ask that you give it a read anyway. These statements apply to everyone, whether you’re a leader or follower, beginner or founding member.
If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions on our Code of Conduct, or any other matter, please feel free to contact us.
We hope you all had an awesome time at the Edinburgh Balboa Weekend and that you’ll be heading to the next Balboa Brunch on Saturday 21 February at the Wash Bar to practice your new moves!
Our fantastic local Balboa teacher, Jason Roseweir, caught Mickey & Kelly’s amazing demo dance in this video from the Saturday night, featuring the wonderful Rose Room:
Thank you to all our inspirational teachers (Mickey, Kelly, Jason and Christi) and to everyone who volunteered their time to help make the weekend a great success!
If you have any specific feedback on the big weekend event, or would be interested in helping out with organising any future Balboa events, please do let us know by emailing email@example.com.
Our neighbours at Caledonian Balboa have also just opened bookings for the Edinburgh Balboa Exchange, Friday 8 – Sunday 10 May! Places are going fast, so book quickly and take advantage of the early bird discount (ends Monday 23 February).
Everyone’s talking about Balboa at the start of this year!
If you hadn’t already heard, we’ve got FREE beginners classes in Balboa throughout January (8pm on Wednesdays at the Counting House) in the run up to the Edinburgh Balboa Weekend with international Balboa teachers Mickey and Kelly at the end of the month.
It’s not too late to register for the big event, but if you’ve already got daytime plans, why not come along to the three social dances at Stockbridge House, Cheyne Street, EH4 1JB?
Friday 30 January, from 8:30pm – late, only £5 entrance
Main Social Dance Saturday 31 January, from 8pm – late, £10 entrance
We hope you’re enjoying the festive season and would like to thank everyone who came along to the AGM on Wednesday 10 December! We got lots of feedback from people and we hope to take forward lots of your ideas in the New Year.
If you couldn’t make it to the AGM but would like to give feedback or share ideas, please fill out the survey – it’s open until Thursday 1 January 2015.
Documents from the AGM are available for you to view:
We also now have a new Edinbop committee for 2015:
Sigridur Vala Gunnarsdottir
We’d like to give a massive thanks again to Alison (Ali) Jeffrey, Daniel Rodger, Sebastian Sandoval Similä, Anna Plant, and Jack Lavender who stepped down this year. They’ve been a fantastic influence on the Edinburgh dance scene during their time on the committee.
We hope you’re all enjoying the Christmas cheer that this month brings with it! A reminder that we’ll be breaking for the festive season – Tuesday 9 December is the last Tuesday Night Spoonful and and Wednesday 10 December (our AGM night) is the last nights Wednesday Night Shoeswing of 2015.
But don’t worry! Blues will be back on Tuesday 6 January and Shoeswing returns on Wednesday 7 January.
Keep an eye on the website and our Facebook group for any info about other dance events throughout December.
Hope to see you all on the dancefloor! Happy holiadys!
In the run-up to the AGM on Wednesday 10 December, we’d really appreciate it if you could spend just a few minutes to complete this survey on our classes, socials, and events – your feedback will help to shape Edinbop’s plan for 2015, so don’t miss this chance to let us know what you want to see in the scene!
On Wednesday 10 December, it’s our very special Christmas Shoe Swing – we’ve got an awesome night planned with live music from Alison Affleck as part of our AGM, at no extra cost!
